Does Your Property Have Gutter Damage?

If you’ve seen cracks in your gutters, or if a gutter has detached from roofing or exterior walls, the need for gutter repairs is apparent. But there are less obvious signs of gutter damage.

  • Rust: If rusting is showing up on your gutters, they’re not performing as they should when it comes to standing up to weather and water.
  • Unevenness: If gutters look uneven, or if some gutters are sagging, that’s a sign of clogging. Frequent clogs are a warning that your gutters are struggling to function as intended and may be in need of repair.
  • Exterior Paint Damage: Exterior paint damage near where your gutters are installed could mean gutters are broken and leaking, especially if you see rotting, peeling or chipping paint only around where gutters are installed.
  • Interior Leaks: Gutter malfunctions can get so bad, they can cause leaks through exterior walls and into your home or HOA property. If discoloration is cropping up on interior walls due to moisture damage, it’s definitely time to check on your gutters.
  • Water Pooling: Look around your downspouts. Do you see pools or puddles of standing water? If so, that’s a red flag. That water could be damaging your foundation.

Having gutters inspected and repaired proactively addresses a host of threats to structural integrity and keeps your property looking great year-round.

In general, your gutters should last around 10-15 years. If it’s been much longer than that since you’ve had gutter repair or replacement, or if you are uncertain when the last gutter services were done on your property, it may be wise to schedule an inspection.

Exterior Carpentry: Where Do We Find Damage?

Exterior carpentry services are meant to fortify outside woodwork. Have you noticed discolored wood, wood that appears to “crumble”, or cracks in wooden surfaces? If so, you could have wood rot around your exterior that needs to be addressed. Some of the most common areas we find damaged exterior woodwork include:

  • Board and batten siding
  • Wooden molding and trim
  • Around doors and windows
  • Fences and decking
  • Accents and fixtures
  • Stairs and railings
  • Patios, decks, and porches

Of course, this isn’t an exhaustive list, but these are good starting points when inspecting property for woodwork damage. You can tell a lot from a visual inspection. Does it have the same lustre it used to? Does it have a uniform color? Is it seamless, and without cracks or chipping? Answering those questions is a good start toward determining whether you need exterior carpentry services.

But it’s always important to remember that damage often lurks below the surface, especially if your woodwork has paint or finish already applied. In that case, look to the surrounding walls, both inside and outside. If the walls have been damaged, chances are the woodwork has some weak spots that need to be repaired.

Why Hire Professionals for Carpentry and Gutter Repair?

Hiring professionals is a good call anytime your planned property improvement projects require specialized knowledge.
